I’m Miriam. There have been so many moments in my teaching career that feel like a record scratch- the realization that so much of what I was taught from my own childhood on up and through my Master’s in Education just didn’t apply to the classrooms we work in today. I know I’m not the only one.
I am deeply committed to making sure that all classrooms, yours included, are safe, relevant and inclusive space to engage students in literacy and democratic citizenship. I am just as committed to making sure that the teachers who share our values are protected from burn out. That’s why I set up this blog and my store- to help teachers like you be rockstars without sacrificing too much.
I’m a middle school literacy teacher in California. I grew up here, but in between I lived around the country, had a career in technology, and was fortunate to travel the world. Since entering the classroom, I have continued to commit to preparing my students as best as I can to thrive in our rapidly changing world. Sharing what I do here helps me feel like I can magnify my impact and maybe help out teachers who are at the same and all other places in their classroom journey.
I love my silly, vulnerable, curious, confused, sometimes bratty students to pieces. I learned early on that making time to focus on them was more important than going down endless rabbit holes planning. I hope I can support you in the same.
Oh, and my coworkers regularly ask for my time to help them problem solve. In fact, I’m pretty sure they are the reason my principal created my TOSA position.
I’d love to collaborate with you too! Reach out with whatever is on your mind and I’d love to get in touch.
